《Add Gold To Your Recipe:Autumn's Gui Hua Customs》
Autumn always arrives a little late in Nanjing - early autumn is still scorching hot, and the real coolness of autumn weather does not usually arrive until October. But every year, still strictly adhering to the lunar calendar, small and delicate sweet-scented osmanthus flowers (given the more simple name gui hua in Chinese) bloom over night all over the city. On the night of the mid-autumn festival, the public enjoys the sight of the full moon, and the sweet-scent of the gui hua. They are not just for looking at - they are also edible. The custom of eating sweet-scented osmanthus goes back to ancient times.
《Edward Lam’s World of Anti-Entertainment》
Prolific Hong Kong playwright Edward Lam brought his latest work ‘The Doppelgangers’ to Nanjing last month shocking the local media with its brutal portrayal of passionless marriages and desperate singles.
But this is only the external face of Lam’s creations. Beyond the scandal and dread in his plays, Lam’s creative work reveals a man dedicated to his art and to seeking an inner world at peace with today’s society.

《Goodbye to All That:Are bookshops becoming endangered?》
Among the many targets of rioters in London – supermarkets, boutiques, flower shops, cafes, restaurants, electronics shops - one type of shop stands out for completely missing out on any damaging or theft. Bookshops. It’s hard to know if this is cause for celebration or commiseration. Are bookshops now so revered that, given the chance, common citizens choose to leave them alone out of respect and admiration? Or are bookshops simply so obsolete that their wares have become not even worthy of theft? Commenting on the awkward fate of bookshops in the recent events, Chinese writer Liu Yu has likened modern day bookshops to ‘a girl who never gets teased or harassed but who suddenly realises what she has been missing out on’.
